MCTA is moving to a convenient and flexible credit card fare payment system. Here's what this means for you:
Click on the buttons below to open up a video on how to use a contactless credit card and prepare your smartphone / smartwatch for a digital wallet.
Do I need a smartphone?
You can use a smartphone, smartwatch, or RFID-enabled credit card. A smartphone or smartwatch allows you to use a digital wallet to pay your fare. A digital wallet (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, CashApp, etc.) is an application that operates on smartphones and smartwatches, storing payment information and allowing you to make payments using your device instead of physical debit or credit cards or cash.
How do I use a digital wallet?
First, open the wallet app on your phone, and add your debit or credit card. Verify your card information, review and accept terms, and set your default payment.
To pay for a fare, unlock your device, open your digital wallet, select payment card, and then hold the device close to the card reader. Contactless payments using digital wallets typically just take a few seconds. You will hear a beep or feel a vibration, depending on the setting of your smartphone or smartwatch.
For more information about your smart device, consult your phone manufacturer for details.
I see an Express Transit Card option on my iPhone. Can I use that?
Express Transit Card is an Apple Pay to tap and pay without authentication. To do so, click on Settings. Scroll down and select Express Transit Card. Choose the payment card you wish to be associated with the Express Transit Card. By doing so, the card you selected will work automatically without requiring Face ID or your passcode. Just hold your phone or watch near the transit reader when you board the bus.
If you don’t have an iPhone, don’t worry. A similar function is available in Google Wallet and Samsung Pay.
How do I use a credit card?
You need an RFID-enabled debit or credit card. How do you know? Look for a symbol on the front or back of the card that resembles a sideways Wi-Fi icon. This symbol is called a contactless indicator, and it tells you that your card can be used for contactless transactions.
Do I need to use the same debit or credit card?
Yes. By using the same debit or credit card, you will benefit from automatic fare capping. For example, a one-way fare is $2. If you take three trips in one day, you will pay a daily cap of $4 instead of $6 (three trips at $2 each). The savings add up from there.
Do I need to purchase a daily, 7-day, or 30-day pass?
Not anymore — as long as you use Pocono Pony Tap & Dash. By using a digital wallet or the same debit or credit card for every transaction, you will automatically receive the best fare, depending on how often you ride. A one-way trip is $2. The daily cap for adults is $4, the 7-day cap is $20, and the 30-day cap is $64.
Can I still use cash?
Yes, you can. Exact change, please.
Can I still use my MoGo Card?
If you have funds on your MoGo Card, you can use them through Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. After that, the cards will no longer work.
I purchased a yearly pass and will have two months left after MoGo Cards no longer work. What do I do?
Please contact us at 570-839-6282, and we will take care of you.
I have a disability. Can I benefit from Pocono Pony Tap & Dash?
The Half Fare for the Disabled and Medicare Card Holder Program assists qualified persons with fixed route transportation at a reduced fare. To use the program, you must present a Medicare Card along with a photo ID to the driver when boarding. If you don’t have a Medicare Card, you can apply for the program, which will include information from your health-care provider, and MCTA will issue a PwD card. Applications can be found on gomcta.com or apply online at apply.findmyride.penndot.pa.gov
What is the fare for people with disabilities?
One-way fare is $1. By using a digital wallet or the same credit or debit card for your transaction, you will automatically receive the best fare, depending on how often you ride. For example, the daily cap for adults is $2, the 7-day cap is $10, and the 30-day cap is $32.
Will the fare for ADA Complementary Fixed Route change?
The ADA Complementary Fixed Route fare, which is $3 per trip, will not change.
I ride with my children age 3 and 12. What is the fare for my children?
All children and young adults through 12th grade ride for free. Youths in kindergarten through 12th grade can ride free by showing a valid school-issued ID card. Without a valid school-issued ID card, the student must pay the full fare. Children who are too young to attend school do not need to show proof of age.
I’m a freshman at a local college, and I’m new to the area. Can I get a discount fare?
College or trade school students are eligible for a discount after providing proof (school ID, class schedule) of enrollment in a college, university, or trade school. To get a discount, a college or trade school student must also provide credit or debit card information and use the same card for each transaction.
What is the fare for college or trade school students?

I’m a senior citizen. Do I need to do anything?
As a senior citizen, age 65 and above, your transit trip is always free on Pocono Pony’s fixed route buses. You do, however, need to show your senior transit card to the driver to verify that you qualify.
